Itaewon

Itaewon is a well-known spot for bargain shoppers and entertainment seekers. Located near the U.S. Eighth Army Base, the area has been popular with tourists since the 70's. Shops are located along both sides of the mile-long street. You can find custom-made suits, silk dresses, jogging suits, sportswear, sweaters, fur jackets, leather apparel and ski wear at bargain prices.

But there is more to Itaewon than clothing and shoes. This is a great area to shop for sports equipment, Korean handicrafts, souvenirs and gifts. They also have the best collection of eel skin products in Seoul, as well as smoky topaz, amethyst and jade jewelry. English and Japanese are spoken at most of the shops to assist foreign shoppers. Won, dollars and yen are accepted everywhere.
In addition to daytime shopping, Itaewon offers nighttime entertainment with a variety of clubs, coffee shops and restaurants.

Namdaemun Market

The largest wholesale market in Korea, Namdaemun Market is just a few minutes' walk from Seoul's ancient South Gate (Namdaemun). It's in the heart of Seoul (the downtown area) and is near many deluxe hotels. This makes it popular with foreign visitors.

They sell vegetables, clothes, tableware, crafts, fresh-cut flowers, ginseng and much more. Each small shop does its own manufacturing, so prices can be up to 10-20% lower than in other shopping districts. Namdaemun is an area for shopping and bargaining. Namdaemun is famous for its crowded market filled with people shopping for high-quality goods at a low price. Usually, the shops are grouped by products. (cameras, clothes, underwear, kitchenware, glasses, accessories etc..) Also, you can find some famous traditional food courts as well.

Insa-Dong

Insa-Dong is a small alley, where Korean art and antiques can be found. Many antique shops, old bookstores, and art galleries are concentrated in this area. New and used goods are for sale here. You can find old paintings, ceramics, wooden chests and metal artwork. Works from the unified Shilla Kingdom, and white porcelain from the Choson Dynasty are also available in this area. Window-shopping in this area will allow you to increase your understanding of Korean art and culture.

Yong-san Electronic Market
