Weather
| As all the tourist books will tell you, Korea has four distinct seasons. The summers are very hot and humid, while the winters are cold and dry. Spring and autumn, which finish far too quickly, provide a welcome relief from the extremes of summer and winter. |
Spring
Generally, spring starts in March and lasts until May.
This is the season during which all the plants and flowers bloom.
Summer
Summer lasts from June till August.
During the summer, temperatures range from 28 to 34 degrees Celsius.
There are many beaches and bays throughout Korea. Regardless of your location, the sea is usually no more than two hours away by car.
Many people enjoy water sports, such as swimming, water-skiing, wind surfing and jet-skiing.
The rainy season (changma) starts in late July and lasts through to mid-August. During this period, flooding in lower areas is common. Don't go anywhere without an umbrella during this time!
Autumn
Autumn starts in September and lasts until November.
Autumn is the most beautiful season, and many people go to the mountains to enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Winter
Winter starts in December and lasts until February.
Winter is commonly referred to as the 'ski season,' as skiing is a popular sport in Korea.
Winter temperatures range between -10 and 5 degrees Celsius, making Korea particularly well suited for skiing.
There are many ski resorts located near Seoul, often no more than one or two hours away by car.
Even though the average snowfall during the season is abundant (1m per month), artificial snowmaking facilities are installed on all slopes.
